🐾 DENTAL DISEASE 🦷
As you can tell from these figures, dental disease in pets is common. Many cats and dogs will show signs of oral health issues by the young age of 3.
Here are some signs to look out for:
Difficulty Eating – Chewing their food on one side of their mouth, dropping their food or avoiding eating certain foods could be signs of oral pain.
Bad Breath – An unpleasant smell coming from their mouth may be a sign of early dental disease.
Tartar – A yellow or brown layer of tartar on their teeth suggests the presence of bacteria and plaque.
Swollen or Red Gums – This could be a sign of gingivitis and can lead to periodontal (gum) disease if left untreated.
Excessive Drooling – Some pets drool more than others, however if your pet has started to drool more than what’s normal for them, it could be an indication of oral discomfort.
Pawing At or Rubbing Their Mouth – This may be a sign of oral pain or oral trauma.
Wobbly or Missing Teeth – Your pet may have advanced periodontal disease.
If your pet is showing any of these signs, it’s important to book an appointment with one of our vets as soon as possible.
