Environmental Policy

Our Statement and Commitment

At Quarry House Vets we recognise that we have a responsibility to the environment which is beyond any legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and will continue to improve our environmental performance as an integral part of our business values. We will encourage clients, suppliers and others to do the same.

The health of animals, humans and the environment have an essential connection. We understand how environmental degradation affects the health and wellbeing of our employees, animals and the general public.

 

Responsibility

It is the responsibility of all our employees, clients and visitors to fully support this policy through active participation and cooperation. Our Environmental Lead is responsible for ensuring that the policy is implemented.

 

Policy Aims

We commit to:

  • Complying with all relevant regulatory requirements and exceeding them where possible.
  • Incorporating environmental factors into our business decisions.
  • Increasing employee awareness and training.
  • Continuing to improve and monitor our environmental performance.
  • Continuing to improve and reduce our environmental impact.

 

How?

 
Energy and water
  • Reduce the amount of energy used as much as possible.
  • Lights and electrical equipment will be switched off when not in use.
  • Washing will be hung outside to dry when possible.
  • We consider the energy consumption and efficiency of new products before purchasing.
 
Office Supplies
  • We will reuse or recycle where possible.
  • We will determine if the need can be met in another way.
  • We will consider the environmental impact of any new products before purchasing.
  • We will favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible.

 

Paper
  • We will recycle all paper where possible.
  • We will seek to purchase recycled and recyclable paper products.
  • We will minimise the use of paper by favouring digital tools and communication.
  • We will reduce packaging as much as possible.
 
Maintenance and Cleaning
  • Cleaning products and materials used will be as environmentally friendly as possible.
  • Materials used in any refurbishments will be as environmentally friendly as possible.
  • We will only use licensed and appropriate organisations to dispose / recycle waste.
 
Transportation
  • We will reduce the need to travel, restricting to essential trips only.
  • We will favour environmentally friendlier vehicles and maintain properly to ensure ongoing efficiency.
  • We will accommodate the needs of those using public transport or bicycles.
  • We will continue to offer the ‘cycle to work scheme’.
  • We will promote the use of travel alternatives such as video/ phone conferencing and/or emails.
 
Culture
  • We will involve staff in implementing this policy, for the greater commitment and improvement of performance.
  • We will provide staff with any relevant environmental training.
  • We will continue to use local suppliers, labour and materials available to reduce CO2 and help the community.
  • We will work with suppliers, contractors and sub-contractors to improve their environmental performance.
  • We will update this policy at least once annually in consultation with staff and others where necessary.

 

Isabelle Hunt is our Environmental Lead for Quarry House Vets and has the designated responsibility for the day-to-day implementation of this policy. Quarry House Vets has made this policy available to any interested parties including members of the public.
